Editor’s Choice

Our verdict

The LG FHP1208Z5M is an 8 kg front loader that combines fast, thorough washing, low vibration and Wi-Fi control, making it the best all-round choice in this group for most Indian households.

Buy it if

  • Families of 3 to 5 who wash daily and want shorter cycles
  • Flats where a quiet, stable spin matters
  • Buyers who want app control and steam hygiene

Skip it if

  • You want the cheapest 8 kg machine
  • You rarely use the app or steam and would rather save money

What we like

  • AI Direct Drive sensed load and chose the wash motion; cotton cycle in about 2 hours 5 minutes
  • Low spin noise of about 64 dB and very little walking on tile
  • Steam and heater improved haldi and oil removal
  • Wi-Fi app shows cycle status and downloads extra programmes
  • Wide service coverage compared with import brands

What we don’t

  • MRP is high and street price swings widely between sellers
  • Needs a firm Wi-Fi connection to use app features
  • Max spin of 1200 rpm leaves cotton a little damper than 1400 rpm machines

The LG FHP1208Z5M is the best all-round pick here for families of three to five who wash most days. It cleans well, finishes cycles faster than the rest of the group and keeps vibration low. The main trade-off is price: the MRP is high and you should wait for a sale rather than pay the sticker.

How well does it wash dal, haldi and collar grime?

Very well for this class. The cotton cycle with the heater removed dal and tea completely and left only a faint ghost of haldi, the best result in the group. Collar grime lifted after a short pre-wash. The steam option softened dried-on oil on cotton kurtas, and mixed loads came out evenly wet.

The AI Direct Drive system senses fabric weight and adapts drum motion, and in practice it avoided the clumping we saw on some others when we mixed jeans and towels.

How long does a cycle take, and how much water does it use?

The cotton cycle took about 2 hours 5 minutes, and the quick wash about 30 minutes for lightly soiled clothes. A full load used around 52 litres, and energy use was about 0.8 kWh at 40 degrees. For daily washing that is a practical combination of speed and efficiency.

Is it quiet, and will it walk on a tiled floor?

Spin noise was about 64 dB at 1 metre, and the machine barely moved on tile even with a single heavy bedsheet. Residual moisture after the 1200 rpm spin averaged about 54 per cent for cotton, a touch higher than 1400 rpm machines, so thick towels may need an extra fan-dry in monsoon.

Does it cope with voltage swings, low pressure and power cuts?

We tested between 190 and 245 V with no error stops. After a short power cut it resumed from where it stopped. With low inlet pressure it took a few extra minutes to fill but completed normally, though a booster pump is wise if your tank sits only slightly above the machine.

Is the Wi-Fi app worth using?

Occasionally. It shows cycle progress, lets you start a wash remotely and adds extra programmes. It is not essential, and the machine works fully without it.

Should you buy it?

Yes, if you can buy it at a street price well below MRP. It is quicker, quieter and better equipped than the Bosch and IFB reviewed here. If you need to spend less, the Whirlpool Fresh Care 8212 is the sensible budget pick, and the Samsung WW80T504DAX1TL is a close rival with a similar feature set.

Questions buyers ask

Is the LG FHP1208Z5M good for a family of four?

Yes. The 8 kg drum handled a typical family load of towels, uniforms and bedsheets, and the cotton cycle finished in about 2 hours 5 minutes, fast enough for daily washing.

How quiet is the LG FHP1208Z5M during spin?

It measured about 64 dB at 1 metre at top spin, and stayed put on a tiled floor with mixed loads, which makes it a good choice for flats.

Does the LG FHP1208Z5M work with hard water?

It copes well with water of about 350 ppm if you run a monthly tub-clean cycle. The heater and steam also reduce soap residue on dark clothes.

Is the Wi-Fi on the LG FHP1208Z5M useful?

Mostly for remote start, cycle status and extra programmes. It works well on a stable router, but nothing essential depends on it.
