The Whirlpool Fresh Care 8212 is the one to buy if you want the most machine for the money. It has an inverter motor, steam and a long motor warranty, and it cleans nearly as well as pricier models. The trade-off is louder spin and no smart features.
How well does it wash?
Better than its price suggests. The 40 degree cotton cycle cleared dal and tea strips and faded haldi to a faint tint. Steam helped with oily collars when combined with a pre-wash. It is a step below the LG on stubborn stains, and a clear step above the IFB in our tests.
Mixed loads of uniforms and towels came out evenly wet, with no clumping.
How long is a cycle and what does it cost to run?
The cotton cycle took about 2 hours 15 minutes. A full load used around 56 litres of water and roughly 0.85 kWh. That puts it ahead of the Bosch and IFB on time and close to the Samsung on efficiency.
Is it easy for elders to use?
Yes. Controls are simple, labelled and uncluttered, and the door opens wide. There is no touch-screen menu to learn, which our older testers preferred.
How loud is it, and does it vibrate?
Spin noise was about 70 dB at 1 metre, louder than the LG and Bosch. On tile it stayed put with balanced loads, but with a single large bedsheet it shuffled slightly. Residual moisture in cotton was about 55 per cent, so drying thick towels in monsoon needs a fan.
Will it cope with hard water, low pressure and power cuts?
With water near 320 ppm, a monthly hot tub-clean kept scale in check. It handled voltage between 190 and 245 V and resumed after power cuts. Low inlet pressure delayed filling but did not trigger errors.
What about warranty and service?
The listing shows 2 years on the product and 5 years on the motor. Whirlpool’s service coverage is wide, including many smaller cities, and our enquiry got a visit slot within two days.
Should you buy it?
Yes, if value is your priority. Pay more for the LG FHP1208Z5M only if you want quieter, faster washing and Wi-Fi. The Haier HW80-IM12929CS6 suits those who wash bulky bedding.
