IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 Review: 8 kg Front Loader Tested

Our verdict

The IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 is an 8 kg front loader that cleans acceptably but runs long cycles, vibrates and gets loud at high spin, and relies on a service network that was slow in our experience.

Buy it if

  • Buyers who put a long product and spare-parts warranty above everything else
  • Households that run mostly short 30 to 40 degree loads on a firm floor

Skip it if

  • You live on an upper floor with a thin slab or a balcony wash area
  • You need dependable, fast service in a smaller town
  • You want quick cycles for daily washing

What we like

  • Long warranty on paper: 4 years on the product and 10 years on the motor, per retailer listings
  • In-built heater and steam improved results on collar grime and haldi stains
  • Gentle on delicates and woollens at low spin
  • Hot-water wash helps with hard-water soap residue

What we don’t

  • Cotton 40 degree cycle ran about 2 hours 50 minutes, longer than the LG and Samsung
  • Drum shook and walked on a tiled floor above 1000 rpm unless the load was balanced
  • Spin noise reached about 74 dB at 1 metre, the loudest in this group
  • Error and imbalance stops needed several restarts in a 6-week run
  • Our service request took 6 days to get a visit

The IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 suits buyers who want an 8 kg front loader with a long warranty on paper and are willing to accept long cycles. The trade-off is that it was the loudest and most vibration-prone machine in this group, and our service request was slow, which weakens the warranty advantage.

How well does it wash everyday Indian laundry?

Cleaning is acceptable rather than impressive. On our test strips with dal, haldi, tea and collar grime, the 40 degree cotton cycle removed most of the dal and tea but left a faint yellow shadow on haldi until we switched to the heater cycle at 60 degrees. Collar grime came out only after pre-soaking.

Heater and steam are the strong points. The hot cycle lifted haldi and oil better than the cold cotton programme, and the steam option relaxed creases on shirts. Woollens at low spin came out without stretching.

How long is the cycle, and how much water does it use?

The 40 degree cotton cycle took about 2 hours 50 minutes, which is long when you wash daily. A full 8 kg load used roughly 62 litres, and energy use was about 0.9 kWh with the heater off. On a 5 star machine that is fine, but the time penalty is real, especially if you rely on a geyser-timed morning routine.

Most of the cycle length comes from repeated rinses and long agitation, and shortening it through the quick programme means giving up cleaning on soiled loads.

Will it shake the floor and make noise at spin?

This was our biggest complaint. On a tiled second-floor flat the drum began to shake above about 1000 rpm with uneven loads, and the machine walked a few centimetres over six weeks. Spin noise reached about 74 dB at 1 metre, noticeably louder than the other machines here.

Residual moisture after the 1200 rpm spin averaged around 52 per cent for cotton, which is acceptable. In monsoon, plan on a fan or a dryer rack for thicker items such as jeans and towels.

Does it handle voltage swings and power cuts?

It tolerated normal swings between 190 and 245 V without stopping. After a short power cut mid-cycle it resumed, though twice it showed an imbalance stop and needed a manual restart. Low water pressure on the inlet slowed filling by a few minutes; a booster or overhead tank with decent head helps.

What about service and long-term cost?

On paper IFB offers one of the longest warranties here, along with spare-parts support. In practice our service call took six days to get a visit, and we could not get a clear time slot. Owner posts across Indian forums often raise the same two themes for front loaders in general: waiting for technicians and unclear spare-part pricing. Treat this as a reason to confirm local service before you pay.

Should you buy it?

Buy it only if the warranty terms matter most and you have a ground-floor or well-supported floor. Most buyers will be better served by the LG FHP1208Z5M for quieter, faster washing or the Whirlpool Fresh Care 8212 for faster washing at a similar price.

Measured on the unit we tested.

How we tested

We ran the IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 for 6 weeks in a second-floor flat with hard water (about 400 ppm) and 190 to 245 V mains swings. We washed cotton, jeans, bedsheets and school uniforms, timed cycles, measured water and spin noise at 1 metre, and checked residual moisture after the 1200 rpm spin.

We bought this unit at retail price.

How does the IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 compare?

  • LG FHP1208Z5M 8 kg Front Load B+ 8.2

The LG FHP1208Z5M is quieter and faster: about 64 dB at spin against the IFB's 74 dB, and a cotton cycle of about 2 hours 5 minutes against 2 hours 50 minutes.

  • Whirlpool Fresh Care 8212 B 7.5

The Whirlpool Fresh Care 8212 sells for a similar street price but finished its cotton cycle sooner (about 2 hours 15 minutes against 2 hours 50 minutes) and spun more quietly (about 70 dB against 74 dB).

  • Samsung WW80T504DAX1TL B 7.9

The Samsung WW80T504DAX1TL's 40 degree cotton cycle took about 2 hours 20 minutes against the IFB's 2 hours 50 minutes, and its spin was quieter at about 68 dB against 74 dB.

Questions buyers ask

Is the IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 good for hard water?

It copes reasonably. The heater and steam rinse reduced soap residue on dark clothes, but we still recommend a monthly drum-clean cycle and a descaler if your water is above 300 ppm, as scale builds on the heater.

How long does the IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 take to wash cotton?

The 40 degree cotton cycle took about 2 hours 50 minutes in our tests. The quick cycle finished in about 30 minutes but only suits lightly soiled clothes.

Does the IFB Senator Neo MXS 8012 vibrate during spin?

On a tiled floor it did, above about 1000 rpm, especially with a single heavy item like a bedsheet or jeans. Spreading the load and using a level, rubber-padded base helped but did not remove it.

Is IFB service reliable for the Senator Neo MXS 8012?

Our experience was mixed to poor: a service visit took 6 days to arrange. The long warranty is a point in its favour, but check that an authorised IFB technician serves your pin code before buying.
