Privacy policy
What The Consumer Review collects about you: almost nothing. No accounts, ads, analytics or tracking cookies. Here is what our server logs, and why.
The short version: you can read every page on The Consumer Review without an account, and we don’t run ads, analytics or tracking cookies. The only personal data we handle is what our web server logs automatically and anything you choose to email us.
This policy is written with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 in mind.
What we collect
Server logs. Like almost every website, our web server records each request: your IP address, the page you asked for, the date and time, your browser’s user-agent string and the page that linked you to us. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure, for example to fix broken links or block abusive traffic. We don’t use them to build profiles of readers, and we don’t sell or share them.
Emails you send us. If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it and whatever is in your message. We use it to reply, check a correction or follow up a tip. We don’t add you to a mailing list.
That is all. We have no newsletter, no comments, no accounts and no sign-up forms.
What we don’t do
- We don’t use Google Analytics or any other analytics service.
- We don’t show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We don’t set cookies of our own.
- We don’t load fonts, scripts or images from third-party servers. Everything on our pages comes from our own server.
- Site search runs in your browser. What you type in the search box is never sent to us.
When you click a retailer link
Our “Check price” and “Buy” buttons take you to retailers such as Amazon.in, Flipkart and Croma. Some are affiliate links, which tell the retailer that you came from us so they can pay us a commission if you buy (see our affiliate disclosure).
Once you are on a retailer’s site, that retailer may set cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy, not ours. We don’t receive your name, your order details or anything else that identifies you. Retailers only report total sales and commissions to us.
How long we keep it
Server logs are deleted automatically on a rolling basis and are not kept long term. Emails are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your message, and for corrections, as long as we need a record of why we changed a page.
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. You can also withdraw any consent you have given. Email us and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
The site is meant for adults making buying decisions. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
