The IFB Neptune VX is aimed at families of three to five who want a dishwasher that works every day and can be repaired anywhere. The trade-off is that it is merely good, not exceptional, on baked-on food and drying.
Does it clean burnt dal and kadhai?
Not in one pass. Dal that had dried on a pressure-cooker lid for six hours left a thin crust after a 2 hour 5 minute Intensive cycle, and a second run cleared it. An oily kadhai came out clean on Intensive; on Auto (1 hour 55 minutes) it kept a greasy film at the rim. Everyday plates, glasses and steel katoris were fine on Auto.
What about haldi stains and steel tumblers?
Plastic dabbas held a pale yellow tint after three cycles, as with every dishwasher here. Steel tumblers had a few spots at 300 ppm hardness, reduced once we filled salt and rinse aid. The softener is manual, so you must remember to top up.
How well does it dry?
Fair. Steel dried quickly because it holds heat, but plastic lids and dabbas stayed wet, and we opened the door at the end to let steam out. If you stack plastic, plan to towel it down or leave the door ajar.
How loud is it?
We measured about 50 dB at one metre on Auto, matching the 49 dB listed by retailers. It is a low hum, and quieter than most mixer grinders by a long way.
How much does it cost to run?
We measured about 9.5 L and 0.95 kWh per Auto cycle. Including a tablet, salt and rinse aid, and power at ₹8 per unit, one cycle a day costs about ₹650 a month. Half-load saves a small amount of water.
Will it work during power cuts?
It paused mid-cycle on a cut and resumed on return, but the heater draws a few kilowatts, so an inverter below 2 kVA will struggle. Schedule washes for the evening when mains is stable.
What is installation and service like?
IFB’s service reach is among the widest for dishwashers, and spares are easier to source in smaller towns than for imported brands. You need a water inlet, drain and a grounded socket; installation is usually done by IFB’s technician after delivery.
Is it a good choice over costlier brands?
For most Indian families, yes. It does not top any test, but it is consistent, its running cost is low, and a technician is likely to be within reach. If you rinse the heaviest pots before loading, the gap to premium machines narrows to burnt dal and tawa grease alone.
Should I buy salt and rinse aid in bulk?
Buy a 1.5 to 2 kg pack of dishwasher salt and a litre of rinse aid at a time; both last two to three months at one cycle a day. Use only dishwasher salt in the softener, never table salt or detergent, and check the indicator weekly.
Who should buy something else?
If you wash burnt cookware often, the Bosch is clearly better. If you want more capacity at a similar price, the Voltas Beko holds 14 place settings.

Measured on the unit we tested.
How we tested
We ran the IFB for five weeks in a flat with about 300 ppm tap water and a family of four. Burnt dal, haldi-stained containers, a kadhai and steel tumblers were repeated three times on Auto and Intensive. Times, litres and sound came from a stopwatch, flow meter and a phone-based sound meter held at one metre.
We bought this unit at retail price.
How does the IFB Neptune VX 12 Place Settings Free-Standing Dishwasher compare?
-
Voltas Beko DF14S2 14 Place Full Size Dishwasher (Silver) B− 7.3
The Voltas Beko holds two more place settings and costs about the same. The IFB has the better service network and a quieter motor, which is why we prefer it for most homes.

Faber FFSD 6PR 12S Neo 12 Place Settings Dishwasher D 5.8
Both are 12-place machines. The IFB used less water and dried better, and its service network is more dependable, so the small price gap is worth paying.

Questions buyers ask
Is the IFB Neptune VX good for Indian cooking?
Yes for everyday loads. The IFB Neptune VX cleaned plates, katoris and tiffin boxes in one Auto cycle, but burnt dal on a cooker lid needed a second run.
How much water does the IFB Neptune VX use?
We measured about 9.5 L per Auto cycle, close to the 9 L that retailers list. That is far less than hand-washing a family's dishes under a running tap.
How many place settings does the IFB Neptune VX hold?
The IFB Neptune VX holds 12 place settings, enough for a family of four to five, and it has a half-load option for smaller loads.
What is the running cost of the IFB Neptune VX?
At one cycle a day we estimate about ₹650 a month, including a tablet, salt, rinse aid and around 0.95 kWh per cycle at ₹8 per unit.
