Which cleans burnt dal and kadhai better?

The Voltas Beko, slightly. Dal dried on a pressure-cooker lid for six hours came clean in one 2 hour 10 minute Intensive cycle on the Voltas Beko, with a faint film at the lid’s edge. On the IFB it left a thin crust after a 2 hour 5 minute Intensive cycle and needed a second run. Both cleaned an oily kadhai in one cycle, and both handled everyday thalis, katoris and steel tumblers on Auto.

Is 14 place settings worth the extra noise?

For a large family, yes. A dinner for six with thalis, katoris, a tawa, spoons and tumblers fitted in one Voltas Beko load. The cost is noise: at about 53 dB it was the loudest freestanding machine we tested, and you will hear it from a living room. The IFB’s 12 places suit a family of four to five, and its half-load option helps on light days.

Which dries better?

Neither is good with plastic. Both left steel dry and plastic dabbas and lids damp, so plan to towel them or leave the door open after the cycle. Both left a pale haldi tint on plastic after three cycles.

Which has the better warranty and service?

The Voltas Beko has the longer warranty: 2 years comprehensive and 10 years on the motor, as listed by the brand. The IFB carries 2 years on the product and 8 years on spare parts, as listed by Croma, and its service network reaches more small towns. If you live outside a big city, confirm a technician for your pin code before buying either.
