The V-Guard Calino DG 15 suits households that want a clear, easy-to-read geyser, especially with older family members. The trade-off is efficiency: it is not rated at the top of the BEE scale, and it loses more heat overnight than the 5-star models.
Is the digital display and remote useful?
Yes, and this is the main reason to buy. The display shows set and actual temperature in large digits, and the remote lets you adjust it from the bed or bathroom door. Our elderly tester found it simpler than a dial with unmarked positions. Keep the remote in a dry drawer, because bathroom steam kills the batteries sooner than you expect.
How long does it take to heat 15 litres?
A full tank climbed from 15 °C to 60 °C in 33 minutes, producing about 22 litres at a 40 °C mix. That is average for a 2 kW class geyser. In a January 9 °C inlet, the same cycle took about 40 minutes, so set the timer earlier.
How much heat does it lose overnight?
We saw an 8 °C drop in eight hours from 60 °C in a 19 °C bathroom. It is acceptable for a plastic-bodied tank but behind the AO Smith and Haier. Use the built-in timer so the geyser heats just before use instead of keeping the tank hot all night.
Does it cope with hard water?
Our supply was 400 ppm TDS. After five weeks, the antiscalant-labelled element showed a thin film, lighter than on the Crompton but not as clean as the AO Smith. The long tank warranty is reassuring, yet scale damages elements first, so descale once a year. The manual and retailer pages disagree on the capacity printed on the label, so double-check you have the 15 L version.
Is it safe?
V-Guard sells this series with a thermostat, thermal cut-out and valve, and its other models use a Safe Shock module. We could not confirm a pressure rating from official pages for this exact model, so ask the dealer if you are on a booster pump, and get the earth tested.
What do owners say about running cost and service?
At about 2.2 kWh a day, running cost for a family of four comes to near ₹530 a month at ₹8 per unit. Owners praise display clarity and a quiet operation, and complain about service delays outside south India. Keep the invoice and register on the V-Guard site to avoid warranty disputes.
Does the remote survive bathroom steam?
Mostly, if you treat it carefully. The remote is an infrared unit, so it must be pointed at the display, and in our test the battery lasted about four months before replacement. Keep it outside the shower area and wipe it dry. If it fails, the main unit still works through its on-body buttons, so the geyser is not locked out of use.
Who should buy something else?
Pick the Haier Wi-Fi geyser if you want app scheduling, or the Crompton Amica Pro if you want a better star rating for less.

How we tested
We set up the Calino on a tiled wall in a second-floor flat and used the remote for temperature and timer. Standard tests on heat-up, mixed volume at 40 °C, eight-hour heat loss, scaling and weekly energy use were run as on the other 15 L storage geysers.
We bought this unit at retail price.
How does the V-Guard Calino DG 15 L Digital Storage Water Heater compare?
-
Haier ES15V-SD Wi-Fi 15 L 5 Star Smart Storage Water Heater B− 7.2
The Haier adds app scheduling and learns usage, but costs noticeably more. The V-Guard gives a clear display and remote at a lower price.
-
Crompton Amica Pro 15 L 5 Star Storage Water Heater B 7.6
The Crompton is cheaper and better rated for efficiency. The V-Guard's display and seven-year tank warranty are easier to live with.
-
AO Smith HSE-SHS-015 15 L Vertical Storage Water Heater A− 8.5
The AO Smith lost less heat overnight and kept its element cleaner on hard water. The V-Guard Calino DG 15's strengths are its digital display, remote and timer.
