Dyson V8 Absolute Cordless Vacuum Review: Still the Benchmark
Our verdict
The Dyson V8 Absolute is the cordless stick vacuum to buy if you want the best pick-up on Indian floors and sofas and accept short high-power runtime and a premium price.
Buy it if
- Homes with marble or tile floors, rugs and sofas that collect daily fine dust
- Pet owners and long-hair households that need a tangle-resistant brush
- Buyers who value a proven service network and long-term spares
Skip it if
- You want more than about 35 minutes of runtime from a single battery
- Your budget is under ₹20,000 and a good-enough cleaner will do
What we like
- Picked up 98% of fine dust from tile in a single pass in our test
- Direct-drive head cleaned a fabric sofa better than any cheaper stick we tested
- Sealed HEPA filtration and washable filter
- Removable battery and a conversion to handheld for cars and curtains
- Backed by Dyson's India service network, with a 2-year warranty as listed by retailers
What we don’t
- Max mode lasts only about 7 minutes, as Dyson itself states
- Trigger must be held down while cleaning, which tires the hand on long jobs
- Dust bin is 0.54 L and needs emptying often in a dusty home
- Costs two to three times a good mid-range stick

The Dyson V8 Absolute suits homes with floors, sofas and pets that need a proper clean every day, and who are willing to pay for it. The trade-off is battery: it is powerful, but high-power runtime is short and the bin is small.
How well does it clean Indian fine dust on tile and marble?
Very well. On vitrified tile it lifted about 98% of a standard fine-dust patch in one pass and left nothing visible along skirting edges. Rice scattered across the same floor cleared in two passes. Fine dust that settles every morning in a ground-floor flat is exactly where this machine shows its lead over cheaper sticks, which tend to push dust ahead of the head.
Is it good for sofas, curtains and car seats?
Take off the wand and it becomes a handheld. On a fabric sofa, the soft head with the crevice tool removed about 90% of embedded dust and crumbs, more than any stick in this batch. Curtain pleats and car footwells are easy to reach, but the trigger is a real strain after ten minutes of overhead cleaning.
How long does the battery last, and how long to charge?
In normal mode with the motorised head we got about 34 minutes, which cleaned our 2BHK in around 28 minutes with a short top-up for the car. Max mode ran out in just over seven minutes, matching Dyson’s own figure. A full charge takes about five hours, so plan charging in the evening, especially if a power cut is expected. The battery is removable, which matters when it ages.
Does the filter clog quickly in a dusty home?
The washable filter is easy to rinse and lets you restore suction with a monthly wash, but it needs complete drying for 24 hours before refit. We saw a noticeable drop in suction after about three weeks of daily use before the first wash, and the 0.54 L bin filled twice during the sofa test. Do not refit a damp filter.
Is it noisy?
About 76 dB at one metre in normal mode and higher in Max. It is not quiet, but the pitch is less sharp than cheaper units.
What about service and spares?
This is a strength. Dyson has an established India service network and genuine batteries, filters and heads are listed on its website and large retailers. Spares in tier-2 cities may need ordering, so keep the invoice and register the unit.
Who should buy something else?
If runtime matters more than peak suction, look at the Dreame R10 Pro. If budget is the main limit, the Eureka Forbes K20 gets you most of the way for much less.

Measured on the unit we tested.
How we tested
We used the V8 Absolute for seven weeks in a 2BHK flat with vitrified tile, a fabric sofa, rugs and a car. Fine dust, rice and pet-hair tests were repeated three times per surface, runtime was logged from a full charge, and sound was measured at one metre.
We bought this unit at retail price.
