Geysers & Water Heaters Review
Bajaj New Shakti Neo 15L Geyser Review: Cheap, Plain, Adequate
Our verdict
The Bajaj New Shakti Neo 15L is a 2 kW, 4-star storage geyser with an 8 bar tank that heats adequately and costs little, but it loses more heat overnight than the 5-star models in this group.

What we like
- 8 bar rated pressure and a multi-function valve for pumped supply
- Five-year inner-tank warranty on retailer listings

- Spares and technicians are easy to find in smaller towns
What we don’t
- 4-star rating means higher standing loss than the 5-star models
- Overnight drop of about 10 °C in our test
- Plain body and thermostat knob with no indicator for temperature
- Heavier scale on the element after six weeks

The Bajaj New Shakti Neo 15L is a no-frills geyser for light daily use or a rented flat. The trade-off is efficiency: with a 4-star rating it costs more to keep hot than the 5-star Crompton or AO Smith, so the saving at purchase narrows over a winter.
How well does it heat?
The 2 kW element took 32 minutes to bring 15 L from 15 °C to 60 °C. A full tank gave about 22 litres at a 40 °C mix. That works for two buckets plus a quick wash, but a family of four will run short on a cold morning. With 9 °C inlet water in January, the first cycle needed about 40 minutes.
How much heat does it lose overnight?
The tank fell about 10 °C over eight hours at 60 °C in a 19 °C bathroom. That is the weakest overnight figure in our group, and it shows up on the meter: leaving the geyser on all night costs more than switching it on 30 minutes before use.
Does hard water damage it?
Our flat’s water measured 700 ppm TDS, and the element wore a thick, flaky layer after six weeks. This is typical for glass-lined tanks without a special coating, so descale every six to nine months in a hard-water city. Keep the thermostat near 55 °C, which slows scale growth and still gives a comfortable mixed temperature.
Is it safe for pumped supply?
An 8 bar rating, a thermostat, a thermal cut-out and a multi-function valve are all in the listing. Those are the same safety basics as the pricier tanks. Insist on a three-pin 16 A socket with a proper earth, and fit a pressure-reducing valve if your pump is strong.
What does it cost to run?
We metered about 2.3 kWh a day for three people in winter, or roughly ₹550 a month at ₹8 per unit. Switching the geyser off at the wall after the morning bath reduces this by around a fifth.
What do owners say about installation and service?
Owners usually praise the price and ready availability of parts. Typical complaints are about leaks at the inlet joint in the first weeks, installation charged on top of the price, and element failures in hard-water cities after the first or second year. Bajaj’s service reach is solid in smaller towns, where it often beats newer brands.
Is it a sensible buy for a rented flat?
Often, yes. If you move every two or three years, a cheap tank that is easy to fix beats an expensive one you leave behind. Ask the landlord to allow a dedicated 16 A point, because a shared 6 A socket will heat and trip. Take the invoice and warranty card with you when you leave, and remember that the tank warranty only holds if the geyser is installed by an authorised technician.
Who should buy something else?
Choose the Crompton Amica Pro for a similar price with a better star rating, or the AO Smith if you plan to keep the geyser for ten years.

Measured on the unit we tested.
How we tested
We installed the geyser in a rented second-floor flat on tank-fed supply and ran it through morning baths for three people. Heat-up, mixed volume at 40 °C, overnight temperature loss and scaling were measured with the same method as every 15 L storage model.
We bought this unit at retail price.
