These are two of the cheapest sensible 15 L geysers from well-known brands, and both have 8 bar tanks and five-year inner-tank warranties on retailer listings. The Crompton is the better geyser; the Bajaj’s case rests on easy repairs in smaller towns.
Which loses less heat, and does the star rating matter?
The Crompton. With the thermostat at 60 °C in a 19 °C bathroom it lost about 7 °C in eight hours, in line with its 5-star label. The Bajaj, described as 4-star on Bajaj Finserv, lost about 10 °C. If you leave the geyser on overnight in winter, the Bajaj needs a longer reheat every morning, which narrows the saving at purchase. Some retailer pages list the Bajaj as 5-star, so check the BEE label on the box.
Which handles hard water better?
The Crompton, though neither has a premium lining. After six weeks the Crompton’s element had a visible, easily scraped layer on 520 ppm water, while the Bajaj’s wore a thick, flaky layer on 700 ppm water. Descale the Bajaj every six to nine months in a hard-water city, and the Crompton once a year.
How much hot water do they give?
Nearly the same. The Crompton gave about 23 litres at a 40 °C mix from a full tank and the Bajaj about 22 litres, enough for two bucket baths. The Bajaj has no temperature indicator, only a thermostat knob.
Which has better service?
Bajaj, in smaller towns. Its spares and technicians are easy to find there, often more so than newer brands. Crompton’s service network is wide in metros and larger towns, but smaller towns may need a dealer visit. Owners of both complain about installation charged on top of the price and early leaks at the inlet joint.
