Which cools faster, the LG or the Daikin?
The LG AS-Q19AWZE, slightly. It cooled a 150 sq ft bedroom from 34 to 24 °C in about 19 minutes; the Daikin MTKM50XV16 took about 21 minutes in a 160 sq ft room. At 45 °C outdoors the LG needed 27 minutes and the Daikin 30, and both then held 24 °C without drifting. The Daikin’s Coanda airflow spreads along the ceiling, so the corner farthest from the unit stayed within a degree of the rest of the room.
Which is cheaper to run?
It is closer than the labels suggest. The Daikin lists an ISEER of about 5.70, well above the LG’s 5.10 or so, but in our bedrooms the LG drew about 640 W settled at 24 °C against 660 W for the Daikin, and used about 5.1 units over an eight-hour night against 5.3. The Daikin’s room was a little larger, which accounts for some of that. Treat the two as roughly level on running cost.
Which is quieter at night?
The LG, by a few dB on low, and it was the quietest of the six ACs we tested. Both are quiet enough for a bedroom: the Daikin’s compressor ramps smoothly and its outdoor unit was not audible from the next room.
Which is better built, and which brand will fix it faster?
The Daikin has the more solid indoor and outdoor build and ran eight to ten hours a day for five weeks without faults, which suits heavy daily use. Its fascia and swing look plain next to rivals. The LG’s advantage is service: LG’s technicians reach most district towns in two to three days, and it lists five years on the PCB and ten on the compressor. If you live in a metro with a Daikin centre nearby, the Daikin’s build and app are worth having; anywhere else, the LG is the lower-risk choice.
