Which cools faster in 45 °C heat, the LG or the Carrier?

The LG AS-Q19AWZE, by a small margin. It took about 19 minutes to bring a 150 sq ft west-facing bedroom from 34 to 24 °C, against about 20 minutes for the Carrier CAI18EE5R36W0 in a 140 sq ft room. At 45 °C outdoors the LG needed 27 minutes and the Carrier 29, and both then held 24 °C without drifting. For most bedrooms the difference is a couple of minutes, not a reason to pick one over the other.

Which is cheaper to run?

The Carrier, but only just. Its listed ISEER of 5.60 is well above the LG’s 5.10 or so, yet in our bedrooms the two were close: about 630 W settled at 24 °C for the Carrier against 640 W for the LG, and 5.0 against 5.1 units over an eight-hour night. The LG’s lower ISEER means its star label promises more saving than it delivers next to the Carrier, but the gap is small enough that it should not decide your purchase.

Which is quieter for a bedroom?

The LG. Its indoor unit was the quietest of the six ACs we tested on low, and its compressor starts without a thump, which matters in a studio flat where the bed is close to the unit. The Carrier is a few dB louder on low but still comfortable for sleeping.

Which has the better features and service?

The Carrier has the longer feature list: geo-fencing that starts cooling as you approach home, an energy display, a refrigerant leak detector and a PM 2.5 and HD dual filter. Its app is functional rather than polished. The LG has auto-clean, six convertible modes and a basic app, with a dust-grade filter rather than a PM 2.5 stage. Service is where the LG pulls ahead: LG’s network is the widest of the brands we tested, while Carrier’s is smaller and small-town buyers report longer waits. In a metro, the Carrier’s features and lower price win; outside one, the LG is the safer buy.
