The Samsung MC32A7035CT is for larger families and regular bakers who want a spacious convection oven without paying for a rotisserie. The main trade-off is footprint: at 32 L it needs a generous counter, and it leaves out the rotisserie and steam clean found on ovens such as the IFB 30BRC2 and LG MJ2886BFUM.

Is 32 L too big for an Indian kitchen?

It depends on the counter. The oven is wide, so measure before ordering and leave a few centimetres of ventilation gap at the back and sides. The payoff is a cavity that takes a steel thali, a 12-inch pizza tray or a large casserole without squeezing, which a 20-23 L oven cannot do.

How well does it bake and crisp?

Preheat to 180 C took about 6.5 minutes. A 22 cm sponge cake baked evenly in around 30 minutes at 170 C, and two trays of cookies on separate racks browned within a minute of each other after swapping them halfway. SlimFry crisped frozen paneer fingers and fries in about 15 minutes with a light oil spray, though the finish is oven-baked rather than fried.

Can it do tikka and curd?

The wide grill browned paneer tikka in about 17 minutes with one turn, with decent colour but no smoky char. The curd mode set a litre of warm milk into firm curd overnight, which saves a lot of fiddling during cooler months.

Is it easy to clean?

Yes. The ceramic enamel cavity wiped clean after dal and gravy splatter, and the drop-down door gives easy access. There is no steam clean mode, so a bowl of water and lemon on microwave mode loosens baked-on grease.

Will it run during power cuts and voltage dips?

Microwave mode ran on a 3 kVA inverter with no complaints. Convection mode draws more, so bake on mains power if your inverter is small. It rode through short evening dips, but lost its clock after a full outage.

How loud is it and what are the controls like?

The convection fan measured about 53 dB at one metre, in line with similar ovens. The buttons and jog dial are plain to use, and older family members managed reheat and defrost without help. Samsung’s service network is wide across metros and most towns, with technician visits covered under the one-year warranty.

Measured on the unit we tested.

How we tested

We used the oven for six weeks in a family kitchen, baking sponge and banana cakes, cooking paneer tikka on the grill, crisping frozen snacks, setting curd and reheating thalis. We timed preheat to 180 C, checked browning on two-tier bakes and measured noise at one metre.

We bought this unit at retail price.

How does the Samsung MC32A7035CT 32 L SlimFry Convection Microwave Oven compare?

  • IFB 30L Convection Microwave Oven 30BRC2 B− 7.4

The Samsung MC32A7035CT leaves out the motorised rotisserie and Steam Clean of the IFB 30BRC2. In return it has a larger 32 L ceramic cavity and is much quieter, at about 53 dB at 1 metre against about 63 dB for the IFB in convection mode.

  • LG MJ2886BFUM 28 L Charcoal Convection Microwave Oven B 7.7

The LG MJ2886BFUM adds a rotisserie, steam clean and a charcoal heater for tandoori-style char, but costs more. The Samsung MC32A7035CT has the larger 32 L cavity and a ceramic interior that shows splatter less than the LG's stainless steel.
