The Samsung MC28A6036QK suits a family of three to five that reheats daily and wants to bake or crisp snacks without buying a separate OTG. The trade-off is price: it costs more than larger 30 L convection ovens, and it skips the rotisserie and steam clean features that some of those include.
How well does the SlimFry rack crisp Indian snacks?
SlimFry is a perforated tray that lets hot air reach the underside of the food. Frozen samosas finished in about 14 minutes at 200 C with only a light brush of oil, and pakoras from a thick batter stayed crisp at the edges, though not as deep-fried as the real thing. Potato wedges needed a mid-way shake. It is a good way to cut oil, not a replacement for an air fryer’s fast circulation.
Does it bake evenly?
Preheat to 180 C took roughly 7 minutes. A 20 cm sponge cake baked in about 32 minutes at 170 C with a fairly even crumb; the back corner browned slightly faster, and turning the tray halfway fixed it. Cookies on a single tray came out uniform. Stacking two trays gave uneven results, so bake in batches.
Is it easy to clean after ghee and tomato gravy splatter?
This is a real strength. The ceramic enamel cavity wiped clean with a damp cloth after reheating a splattered paneer gravy, with no scrubbing, and Samsung backs the cavity with ten years of coverage. There is no steam clean cycle, so a bowl of water with lemon for three minutes does the job instead.
Will it run on an inverter or through voltage swings?
On a 4 kVA home inverter it ran in microwave mode without tripping, but convection mode draws a lot, so check your inverter’s rating before baking during a power cut. It restarted cleanly after two short dips in our test flat, and the display kept its clock setting only for a few seconds, so expect to reset it after a full outage.
How loud is it, and how simple are the controls?
With the convection fan running we measured about 54 dB at one metre, a steady whirr that is audible from the next room in a small flat. Microwave mode is quieter, at around 48 dB. The jog dial and tact buttons are easy to learn, and an older relative picked up reheat and defrost without help.
Is Samsung service easy to get?
Samsung has one of the wider service networks among microwave brands, and technician visits are included under the one-year product warranty. Smaller towns may still see a few days of wait for parts, so register the purchase and keep the invoice handy.

Measured on the unit we tested.
How we tested
We used the oven for about 5 weeks in a flat with a 4 kVA inverter and frequent evening voltage dips. We timed preheat to 180 C, baked sponge cakes and cookies, reheated dal and rice from the fridge, crisped frozen snacks, set curd overnight and measured noise at one metre with the convection fan running.
We bought this unit at retail price.
