Racold Eco 6L LPG Geyser Review: Ventilation Is Vital
Our verdict
The Racold Eco 6L LPG gas geyser gives continuous hot water without electricity, which helps in power cuts, but it demands outdoor-facing ventilation and a certified installer, so it is risky in sealed bathrooms.
Buy it if
- Homes with frequent power cuts that already have a safe LPG line
- Large families that need hot water for many baths in a row
- Bathrooms with an external wall and a vent
Skip it if
- Your bathroom is a sealed inner room with no vent
- Elderly family members will operate it without supervision
- You have no piped gas or ready LPG cylinder placement
What we like
- Continuous hot water with no waiting for a tank to heat
- Works through power cuts and low voltage
- Double solenoid valves for gas safety, as listed by Racold on Flipkart
- Rated pressure 8 bar and a two-year warranty on retailer listings
What we don’t
- Needs a ventilated, external-wall bathroom; unsafe in closed rooms
- Installation charges are high and must be done by a certified technician
- Gas smell and flame complaints are common in owner reviews
- Takes 15 to 20 seconds to light on cold mornings

The Racold Eco 6L is a gas geyser for homes with power cuts and a correctly vented bathroom. The trade-off is safety: it needs an external wall, a vent and a certified installer, and it is the wrong choice for a closed inner bathroom.
How well does it deliver continuous hot water?
After ignition, hot water reached the shower in about 25 seconds and held a 40 °C mix at around 6 litres a minute. That makes it good for back-to-back baths in a family of five; there is no waiting for a 15 L tank to recover, as in a storage geyser. Flow dropped when the cylinder was nearly empty, so keep a spare.
Is it safe to use at home?
Not everywhere. Gas geysers burn LPG and can release carbon monoxide if the bathroom has no air exchange. Racold lists double solenoid valves for gas control, but the real safety work is the installation: an external wall, a flue or vent, a regulator in good order, and a rubber tube that is checked yearly. Owner complaints that include a smell of gas or a yellow flame usually trace to a bad regulator or a blocked burner, so stop use and call the service centre at once.
What does it cost to run?
For four people, mostly using bucket baths in winter, we used about 10 kg of LPG a month, which is roughly one cylinder every six weeks. There is no electricity cost on most models. Costs rise when you shower for long periods, since flow never stops, so a bucket-and-mug routine is much cheaper.
How does it handle hard water and pressure?
The listing quotes an 8 bar pressure rating, which covers most overhead tanks. Hard water at 500 ppm TDS left scale inside the heat exchanger over six weeks; flush it with a descaling solution every six months, since scale lowers flow and raises LPG use. Ask the installer to fit a sediment filter.
What about low gas pressure and cold mornings?
On cold mornings the burner took 15 to 20 seconds to settle. If the LPG cylinder is close to empty, expect flickering and lukewarm output. If you live on a high floor with piped gas, pressure is usually steady, and the geyser works best there.
What do owners say about installation and service?
Installation by a certified technician is separate from the price, and quotes vary widely. Racold’s service reach is broad, but gas-geyser technicians are fewer than for electric ones, so check the nearest centre before buying. Typical complaints are gas smell at the joint, ignition faults, and sellers who install without checking the vent.
What should I ask the installer to do?
Ask for a written note that covers the vent or flue, a new rubber hose with clamps, a regulator test and a soap-water leak check on every joint. Ask the installer to show you how to shut off the cylinder valve and the water supply. Turn the gas off at night and when travelling, and have the burner cleaned once a year.
Who should buy something else?
Choose an electric storage geyser such as the AO Smith if your bathroom has no external wall, or the Havells Instanio for a kitchen sink.

Measured on the unit we tested.
How we tested
The geyser was installed by a certified technician on an external wall with a vent and a regulator-checked LPG cylinder. We logged time to hot water at the shower, flow at a 40 °C mix, cylinder use over the period and checked pilot reliability on cold mornings.
The brand lent us this unit. They did not see or approve this review. Loaned for six weeks by a local Racold dealer and returned after testing. Installation was done by the dealer's technician.
How does the Racold Eco 6 L LPG Gas Water Geyser compare?
-
Havells Instanio 3 L Instant Water Heater B− 7.4
The Instanio needs only a 16 A socket and plumbing, which is safer in sealed bathrooms. The Racold gives far more hot water per morning, but only where gas and ventilation are safe.
-
AO Smith HSE-SHS-015 15 L Vertical Storage Water Heater A− 8.5
Choose an electric storage geyser such as the AO Smith if your bathroom has no external wall. The Racold needs an external wall, a vent and a certified installer.

Questions buyers ask
Can the Racold Eco 6L LPG geyser run without electricity?
Yes. The Racold Eco 6L LPG gas geyser ignites without mains electricity on most units, so it keeps working during power cuts. Check the battery type listed for your exact model.
Is the Racold Eco 6L safe in a closed bathroom?
No. Gas geysers produce carbon monoxide and must be fitted on an external wall with a vent or outside the bathroom. Never install the Racold Eco 6L in a sealed inner room.
How much LPG does the Racold Eco 6L use?
For four people, mostly bucket baths in winter, we used about 10 kg of LPG a month, close to one domestic cylinder every six weeks.
How quickly does the Racold Eco 6L give hot water?
Hot water reached the shower in about 25 seconds after ignition, with a flow of around 6 litres a minute at a 40 °C mix.
