Water Purifiers Review

Kent Excell Plus Review: Under-Counter RO+UV+UF, Average

KENT Excell Plus purification unit with three filter housings beside its white pressure tank and tap

Our verdict

The Kent Excell Plus is a well-established under-counter RO+UV+UF purifier with a wide service network and a 7 L pressure tank, but it wastes plenty of water and has no app.

Buy it if

  • Mixed-quality supply that swings between municipal and borewell
  • Households that want UF and UV on top of RO
  • Buyers who prefer a brand with technicians in smaller towns

Skip it if

  • You want an app, a modern tap or a 2-year warranty
  • Water wastage is a concern
  • Cabinet space is tight, since the unit and tank are bulky

What we like

  • RO + UV + UF + alkaline + copper + TDS control in one unit
  • 7 L hydrostatic tank supplies water without power or running water
  • Wide Kent service network
  • Sold direct by Kent with a published price

What we don’t

  • Drained about 2.5 L per litre purified at 450 ppm
  • No app, and a basic tap with about 25 cm clearance
  • Warranty is 1 year, 6 months on filter cartridges per retailers
  • Exposed filter housings look dated in a modular kitchen

The Kent Excell Plus is for households that want RO, UV and UF in one under-counter unit from a brand with technicians in most Indian cities. It purified our mixed supply reliably. The trade-offs are heavy water waste, a design that looks like a lab rig, and no app.

Is the water clean on a mix of municipal and borewell supply?

Yes. On the 250 ppm municipal days the output was about 25 ppm. On 700 to 900 ppm borewell days it was about 50 to 65 ppm, and UF and UV on top of the RO gave us confidence on monsoon-season turbidity. The TDS controller blends minerals back so water does not taste flat.

How fast is it?

Retailers list 15 L per hour. Filling a 20 L can took about 52 minutes from a full 7 L tank. The hydrostatic tank pushes water out under pressure, so it dispenses even during a power cut or when the supply is off.

How much water goes down the drain?

About 2.5 L per litre purified at 450 ppm and 3.2 L at 900 ppm, the second-worst of the group. Households in Lucknow’s and Delhi’s summer shortage months will notice it. The drain water is fine for mopping and plants.

Will it fit under a modular kitchen sink?

Barely in some. Three vertical filter housings, the pump and a separate pressure tank take a lot of depth. Measure before ordering. It is not as slim as the Boon Tap or the Z2 Pro.

How loud is it and what power does it use?

The pump measured about 45 dB at 1 m, the loudest of the group, and ran for about 5 minutes after heavy use. Wall power during pump runs was about 55 W.

What does ownership cost?

Kent sells the unit directly on its site, and its service network reaches smaller towns than most. Kent does not publish a single filter-set price for this model, so we estimate about Rs 5,200 a year for filters, one service and power. Retailers list a 6-month warranty on cartridges, so ask what is covered.

What do owners say?

Owners generally praise Kent’s service response and the clean-tasting water, and complain about the cost of cartridges and the volume of reject water. Kent’s own product image advertises a free-service badge, so ask for the exact terms in writing before relying on it; retailer listings show a 1-year warranty and 6 months on cartridges.

Does the alkaline and copper stage matter?

It is a mild extra. Kent adds an alkaline and a copper stage after the RO, and our water tasted a little softer than plain RO. We would not pay extra for it, since mineral levels depend far more on the TDS setting and the incoming supply.

Who should look elsewhere?

If you want an app, a tall tap, lower water waste or a longer warranty, the Boon Tap RO is a stronger buy. If you cannot spare cabinet depth, pick one of the slimmer wall-mount units.

How we tested

We tested the Excell Plus on a supply that alternated between about 250 ppm municipal and 700 to 900 ppm borewell water. We logged output TDS with a handheld meter, timed 20 L fills, measured reject water, recorded noise at 1 m and watched power use over several days.

The brand lent us this unit. They did not see or approve this review. Kent loaned us the unit for 7 weeks and took it back afterwards.

How does the KENT Excell Plus Under-the-Counter RO Water Purifier compare?

  • Boon Tap Under Sink RO Water Purifier A 9.1

The Boon Tap RO is the stronger buy if you want an app, a tall tap, lower water waste or a longer warranty. The Kent Excell Plus adds UF and has a service network that reaches smaller towns than most.

Questions buyers ask

Is the Kent Excell Plus an under-sink purifier?

Yes. Kent describes the Excell Plus as an under-the-counter RO purifier that can sit under the kitchen sink. It has a 7 L hydrostatic tank, and the filter housings need more cabinet depth than slimmer units.

What technologies does the Kent Excell Plus use?

Kent lists RO, UV, UF, alkaline, copper and TDS control. UV and UF add bacteria and virus protection on top of the RO membrane, and the TDS controller blends back minerals.

How much water does the Kent Excell Plus waste?

We measured about 2.5 L of reject per litre of purified water at 450 ppm and 3.2 L at 900 ppm. That is heavier than Boon's units, so plan to reuse the drain water.

Does the Kent Excell Plus have an app?

No. Alerts are on the unit itself. If you want live TDS and filter health on your phone, the Boon Tap RO offers an app.
