Glen 6063 BL AC 60 cm Baffle Filter Chimney Review

Glen 6063 black chimney with curved glass front and baffle filters, three-quarter view from below

Our verdict

The Glen 6063 BL AC is a handsome curved-glass 60 cm chimney with baffle filters and heat auto-clean, but its mixed owner feedback on service and finish keep it a middling pick for Indian tadka cooking.

Buy it if

  • Buyers who prefer a curved-glass look with baffle filters
  • Two-burner kitchens that fry moderately

Skip it if

  • You want the quietest chimney or the strongest after-sales network
  • You do not want to wash baffle filters every few weeks

What we like

  • Curved black glass looks premium in a small kitchen
  • Stainless steel baffle filters catch grease well and can be washed in warm soapy water
  • Cleared mustard-oil tadka smoke in about 4 minutes 30 seconds

What we don’t

  • Baffle filters still need washing every 2 to 3 weeks with heavy frying
  • Touch panel was slow to respond when slightly oily
  • Owner reviews on retailer pages mention slow service calls
  • Noise rose to about 63 dB at top speed

The Glen 6063 BL AC suits buyers who like a curved-glass hood and do not mind washing baffle filters. The trade-off is upkeep and service confidence: a filterless 60 cm model clears similar smoke with less chore.

How well does it handle tadka and mustard-oil smoke?

Smoke from dry red chillies in hot mustard oil cleared in about 4 minutes 30 seconds at top speed on the front burner and took closer to 6 minutes from the rear burner. That is a bit slower than the filterless Elica 1200 m³/hr in our group, most likely because grease-laden baffles add resistance by week three. Fresh, clean filters performed better than ones that had gone two weeks without washing.

How much cleaning does it actually need?

We washed the baffle filters every 2 to 3 weeks in warm water with dishwash liquid; each wash took about 15 minutes and the metal handled it without warping. The heat auto-clean cycle took 20 minutes and drained oil into a removable tray, which collected about 130 ml over four weeks. The cycle does not remove grease from the filters themselves.

Is the touch panel reliable?

Mostly, but it needed a second press when our fingers were oily. Wipe the panel with a dry cloth before you use it. We saw no random speed changes during four weeks.

How loud is it?

At 1 m we measured 50 dB, 56 dB and 63 dB. Measured draw was roughly 170 W at top speed. The motor does not rattle, but the hum on top speed carries into a living room with an open kitchen.

What do owners complain about?

Reviews on retailer pages for this model are mixed, with the recurring themes being slow service callbacks and some units with finish or panel issues on arrival. Check the glass and panel on delivery, photograph the box, and keep the invoice for any warranty claim. We could not confirm the exact warranty from an official source, so read the card in the box.

What should I check before installing?

Glen sells this hood in several size and finish variants, so confirm the model number. Ask whether installation is included, since many sellers advertise free installation but limit it to a basic fitting. For voltage swings, use a stabiliser or a socket with surge protection.

Who should look elsewhere?

A filterless unit such as the Elica or Sunflame will cut down on chores. If you want to stay with baffle filters at a lower price, the Prestige Dura is the budget option, but it is plainer.

Is the curved-glass design easy to keep clean?

Glass wipes clean with a damp microfibre cloth, and it hides oil splashes better than plain steel does. It also shows fingerprints and water marks, so expect to wipe it every few days. Do not use abrasive pads; a scratch on the curve is permanent and cannot be repaired under normal warranty.

What would we check on delivery?

Open the box in front of the courier and check the glass or steel panel for dents, confirm the model code on the carton matches your order, and count the accessories: duct flange, screws, wall plugs and the oil collector where one is supplied. Run it on each speed before the installer leaves. Ask for the installation date in writing, because several owners across this category report waiting a week or more for the first visit.

How we tested

We fitted the Glen over a two-burner hob with a 2 metre duct and one bend. We timed smoke clearance after mustard-oil tadka with dry red chillies, measured noise at 1 m per speed, logged power on a plug-in meter, weighed the oil collected after four weeks of daily frying, and noted when the filters needed washing.

We bought this unit at retail price.

Questions buyers ask

Is the Glen 6063 good for Indian kitchens?

It is acceptable for light to moderate cooking. The Glen 6063 BL AC cleared mustard-oil tadka smoke in about 4 minutes 30 seconds, slower than the filterless 1200 m³/hr Elica.

Does the Glen 6063 need filter cleaning?

Yes. It uses baffle filters, which we washed every 2 to 3 weeks with daily frying. The heat auto-clean cycle handles the inner oil but not the filters.

How noisy is the Glen 6063?

We measured about 50 dB, 56 dB and 63 dB at 1 m on speeds 1 to 3. The listing says 58 dB.

Is the Glen 6063 baffle filter or filterless?

The Glen 6063 is a baffle-filter model with heat auto-clean. Glen sells filterless chimneys under different model numbers, so check the listing carefully.
