Our verdict

The Prestige Dura 600 is a basic 60 cm, 1000 m³/hr baffle-filter chimney that works for light cooking in small kitchens but needs regular filter washing and struggles with heavy mustard-oil tadka.

The Prestige Dura 600 is for small kitchens with light cooking and a tight budget. The trade-off is effort and performance: filters to wash, slower smoke clearance and a loud top speed.

Can 1000 m³/hr handle tadka and mustard oil?

Barely. On a two-burner hob with a 2 metre duct, smoke from dry red chillies in mustard oil took about 7 minutes to clear at top speed. Fish fry smell stayed for 30 minutes. If you cook for two with simple tadkas, it copes. For frying, it does not.

How much work are the baffle filters?

They come out with a quick twist and wash well in hot water with dishwash liquid, but with daily frying they were greasy every 10 to 12 days. A wash took about 15 minutes. After four weeks the two filters held roughly 120 ml of grease between them. Skipping washes cuts suction noticeably, so set a reminder.

How loud is it?

At 1 m we measured about 52 dB, 59 dB and 66 dB across the three speeds. Measured draw was close to 180 W at top speed, matching the listed motor power. The unit hums more than a BLDC model and is the loudest here at top speed.

What features are missing?

There is no auto-clean, no touch panel and no sensors. Controls are simple, which suits some buyers and means fewer parts to fail. There is also no oil-collector convenience of filterless hoods.

Does it suit small Indian kitchens and window exhausts?

Yes, the 60 cm body fits narrow walls, and the stainless steel finish resists splatter marks. If your exhaust is a window fan rather than a duct, expect lower airflow still, since the chimney is designed for a ducted outlet.

What do owners say about service?

Prestige has a large retail and service footprint across India, so spares are easy to find. Owner comments elsewhere are mixed: some praise value, others report noise and suction drop after a year without filter washing. We could not confirm the warranty terms from an official page, so check the card.

Who should buy something else?

If you want less cleaning, spend a little more on a filterless model such as the Sunflame Lamia. If you like baffles and glass, the Glen 6063 is the nicer-looking alternative, though not by a large margin.

Is a baffle chimney still worth it compared with a filterless one?

Baffle filters trap grease well and cost less to replace if a part fails, but they cost you time. If you wash two filters every fortnight, that is about thirty minutes a month. Many buyers find that effort acceptable at this price, while others tire of it after a few months and regret not paying for auto-clean.

What would we check on delivery?

Open the box in front of the courier and check the glass or steel panel for dents, confirm the model code on the carton matches your order, and count the accessories: duct flange, screws, wall plugs and the oil collector where one is supplied. Run it on each speed before the installer leaves. Ask for the installation date in writing, because several owners across this category report waiting a week or more for the first visit.

How we tested

We fitted the Dura over a two-burner hob with a 2 metre duct. We timed smoke clearance after mustard-oil tadka with dry red chillies, measured noise at 1 m on each speed, metered power, and tracked how often the filters needed washing and how much grease they held after four weeks of daily frying.

We bought this unit at retail price.

Questions buyers ask

Is the Prestige Dura 600 good for Indian cooking?

Only for light cooking. The Prestige Dura 600 took about 7 minutes to clear mustard-oil tadka smoke in our two-burner kitchen and left a lingering smell after frying.

How often must the Prestige Dura 600 baffle filters be washed?

With daily frying we washed them every 10 to 12 days. Lighter cooking can stretch that to three or four weeks.

How noisy is the Prestige Dura 600?

We measured about 52 dB, 59 dB and 66 dB at 1 m on speeds 1, 2 and 3.

Does the Prestige Dura 600 have auto-clean?

No. It is a manual baffle-filter hood. Prestige sells auto-clean models under other names, so confirm the model code before buying.
