The Eureka Forbes Dr Aeroguard 150 is for a small room and a small budget. It brings H13 HEPA filtration into the price range where many purifiers use weaker filters. The trade-off is airflow: it works well in a kids’ room, slowly in a standard bedroom and not at all in a hall.

How well does it clean a small room?

In a 110 sq ft kids’ room it took 19 minutes to bring PM2.5 from about 300 to under 35 ug/m3. In the 180 sq ft bedroom it took 44 minutes, nearly three times the Boon Airvana. Review sources rate it for about 200 sq ft, but in peak smog we would keep it to rooms under 150.

How loud is it?

On low it measured about 38 dB at 1 metre, higher than most of the larger units, because the small fan works harder. On top speed it measured 56 dB. It is a steady sound, not irritating, but this is not the quietest unit for a light sleeper.

What does it tell you about the air?

Very little. An indicator light and a few speeds are all you get, and in our test the light changed colour from about 85 ug/m3. There is no app, no timer and no number. If you want to know whether the purifier is working, buy a cheap PM2.5 monitor and place it in the room.

What are running costs like?

Power use is low: we measured about 24 W on top speed, so a night’s use costs very little and fits on any inverter. Filters are the real cost. We did not find a stable official replacement price, so check the exact filter model before you buy and ask about stock in your city.

What about service?

Eureka Forbes has service points in most large cities, which counts for something in this price band. Owners praise the price and complain about noise and slow performance in larger rooms.

Who should skip it?

Anyone with a room above 150 sq ft or who wants any connected features. The Honeywell and Xiaomi cost more but suit regular bedrooms.

How we tested

We bought a unit and tested it for four weeks in a 110 sq ft kids' room and a 180 sq ft bedroom, with outdoor AQI between 270 and 450. We timed PM2.5 clean-up from about 300 to under 35 ug/m3, measured noise at 1 m, logged wall power and compared its indicator with a handheld reference monitor.

We bought this unit at retail price.
