Both are 15 L, 2 kW, 5-star vertical storage geysers with 8 bar tanks and the same tank warranty, and they heated water at the same speed. The difference is in what you pay for: the AO Smith’s lining and service, or the Crompton’s lower price.

Which copes better with hard water?

The AO Smith. Its glass-lined tank and coated element showed only a light, chalky film after six weeks on 650 ppm borewell water. The Crompton’s element wore a visible, easily scraped layer after six weeks on 520 ppm water, thicker than the AO Smith’s on softer water. Both need a yearly flush and anode check in a hard-water city; the AO Smith is the safer bet if you want the tank to last a decade.

How much hot water does each give?

About the same. The AO Smith gave about 24 litres at a 40 °C mix from a full tank and the Crompton about 23 litres, enough for two bucket baths and a little washing up. Over eight hours the AO Smith lost about 6 °C and the Crompton about 7 °C, so both need only a short top-up in the morning.

What do they cost to run?

Close. For four people in winter we metered about 2.1 kWh a day on the AO Smith and about 2.0 kWh a day on the Crompton. Switching either off when the house is empty, or using a timer plug before the first bath, saves more than the gap between them.

Which is easier to live with?

Neither has a display, timer or app. The Crompton’s plastic body yellowed slightly near the vent after five weeks of steam, which is cosmetic. AO Smith’s service network is among the widest in India, while Crompton’s is wide in metros and larger towns but may need a dealer visit in smaller ones.

Questions buyers ask

Which heats faster, the AO Smith HSE-SHS-015 or the Crompton Amica Pro 15L?

They are level. Both the AO Smith HSE-SHS-015 and the Crompton Amica Pro 15L took about 31 minutes to heat a full 15 L tank from 15 °C to 60 °C on their 2 kW elements, and about 38 minutes with cold winter inlet water.

Which is better for hard water, the AO Smith HSE-SHS-015 or the Crompton Amica Pro 15L?

The AO Smith HSE-SHS-015. After six weeks on 650 ppm TDS water its element carried only a light, chalky film, while the Crompton Amica Pro 15L showed a thicker, visible scale layer after six weeks on softer 520 ppm water.

Do the AO Smith HSE-SHS-015 and Crompton Amica Pro 15L have the same warranty?

Retailer listings give both the same terms: five years on the tank, two years on the element and two years on the product. Check the warranty card in the box, since terms and Crompton model codes differ between sellers.
