The Havells Gracia Alkaline suits a family that wants three temperatures in one steel-tank purifier: ambient for drinking, warm for baby formula and hot for chai or noodles. The weak spots are a one-year warranty and no app.
How good is the purification?
Output TDS was 18 ppm from 450 ppm input, 31 ppm from 900 ppm and 55 ppm from 1,500 ppm. Havells lists 10 stages with an alkaline step and a 15 L/h rate. In our test a 1 L jug filled in about 4 minutes when the storage tank was empty. Chennai’s mixed supply was well inside the 2,000 mg/L limit.
How fast and how hot?
The first 150 ml cup at 80 °C took about 50 seconds from cold. With only 0.8 L of hot water on hand, we drew 25 cups an hour before output fell under 75 °C. The warm setting is the most useful for baby formula, but check the temperature with a thermometer before use. Standby power averaged 0.10 kWh a day against a 60 W rating.
Is the stainless-steel tank important?
Yes, especially for hot water. The tank is stainless steel, which compares well with the plastic ABS tank on the AO Smith Z9. The Boon Homie Pro also lists a steel tank and steel nozzle, so the Havells matches it on this point.
Is the hot tap safe for children?
A child lock protects the hot tap. It resisted a single press in our test. Mount the unit high anyway, since 80 °C water can scald a toddler within a second or two of contact, and keep the lock engaged whenever children are home from school.
Is it good for chai, green tea and baby formula?
The 80 °C setting makes chai and instant noodles quick. Green tea is better at the warm 45 °C setting or after a short wait, because water at full heat can make it bitter. For infants, warm water is a convenience but not a substitute for checking the temperature on your wrist. Havells lists a child lock on the hot tap, which we recommend keeping on.
How does it behave in winter and power cuts?
In winter, incoming water is colder and the 0.8 L hot section took longer to recover, about 15 seconds more per cup in our test. The 60 W rating means a small inverter can run it for purified water, but the heating needs more power, so plan for hot water to stop in a long cut.
Where does the Havells fall behind the Boon?
Havells gives one year with Care 360 service. The Boon Homie Pro gives two years comprehensive with free installation. The Havells page lists no app for this model, while the Boon adds per-person tracking and live TDS in an app. If you do not care for either, the Havells is cheaper.
What does it cost to run?
Havells does not publish filter prices on the product page. We estimated roughly Rs 3,500 to 4,500 a year, including power, and flag that as an estimate.

Measured on the unit we tested.
How we tested
We fed the Gracia at 450, 900 and 1,500 ppm TDS and measured output TDS, timed the first hot cup and the climb to 80 °C, counted hot cups per hour, compared the thermometer with each setting, logged standby kWh over a week and tested the child lock.
We bought this unit at retail price.
