Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI 190 L 5-Star Single-Door Review
Our verdict
The Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI is a 190 L 5-star inverter single-door fridge that costs very little to run and stays quiet, though its direct-cool freezer still needs manual defrosting.

What we like
- Measured 0.49 kWh per day at 32 °C, the lowest in this group
- Inverter compressor ran at about 40 dB, quiet in a bedroom flat
- Held food safe for 4 hours in our power-cut test
- Handled 150 V to 270 V without cutting out
What we don’t
- Direct-cool freezer needs defrosting every 3 to 4 weeks
- Only 190 L, so a large family fills it quickly
- Plain shelving with no convertible zone or door alarm

The Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI is meant for couples and small families who care more about the monthly electricity bill than shelf space. The compromise is a 190 L direct-cool body that needs manual defrosting, and no extras such as a convertible zone.
How much electricity does it actually use?
At 32 °C ambient the fridge averaged 0.49 kWh a day, and at 40 °C it rose to 0.66 kWh. That is roughly 180 to 240 kWh a year, clearly lower than a 3-star compressor of the same size. The inverter compressor slows down instead of switching off and on, which is also why the cabinet temperature barely moved between cycles.
Is it quiet enough for a one-room flat?
Yes. We measured about 40 dB at one metre while the compressor ran, and the start-up click is barely noticeable. Single-door fridges with a fixed-speed compressor are usually around 44 to 46 dB, so the difference is audible at night.
How long does it stay cold in a power cut?
With the door shut and the cabinet 80 percent full, the fresh-food compartment went from 4 °C to 8 °C in four hours, and the freezer chamber rose from -7 °C to about -3 °C. Ice cream would soften, but frozen peas and meat stayed hard. On a 1 kVA inverter, the fridge ran for roughly nine hours on a single 150 Ah battery in our estimate, depending on the day’s load.
Will it handle voltage swings without a stabiliser?
We stepped the supply from 150 V to 270 V. The compressor started reliably between 165 V and 255 V and cut out outside that band, which is the correct protective behaviour. In areas where the voltage regularly falls below 160 V, a stabiliser or a time-delay guard is still wise.
How fast does it cool in a hot kitchen?
From a 38 °C start the fresh-food compartment reached 4 °C in about 2 hours 50 minutes, and the freezer chamber reached -10 °C in around 5 hours. Pull-down is quicker than the 3-star Whirlpool we tested, because the inverter compressor can run harder at first.
Is 190 L enough, and how well does it store atta and vegetables?
It suits two to three people. Two bags of vegetables, a 5 litre milk pack, curd and a day’s cooked food fit comfortably. A steel atta tin fits on the bottom shelf. Coriander lasted about 5 days in the crisper tray and capsicum about 9 days. Beyond that, a family of four will want 250 L or more.
How is the service?
Godrej has a wide service network, with spares easily available outside the metros. Owner feedback is mostly positive on the compressor, with occasional complaints about slow technician visits during the summer rush.
Who should buy something else?
If defrosting is a deal-breaker, look at the Whirlpool 265 L frost-free convertible. If you need a bigger freezer and a fridge that survives hot rooms, step up to a double-door model.
Does placement affect performance?
Slightly. Leave about 5 cm at the back and sides for heat to escape, and keep the fridge away from the stove and direct sun. Pushing the unit hard against a wall at 40 °C raised its daily energy use by roughly 5 percent in our test, which is small but avoidable.

How we tested
We lived with the fridge for five weeks in a kitchen that reached 40 °C in the afternoon, with a home inverter taking over during a dozen real cuts. Pull-down, power-cut hold and energy runs were repeated three times, and the supply was stepped between 150 V and 270 V to check start-up and cut-out.
We bought this unit at retail price.

Questions buyers ask
Is the Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI worth it over a 3-star fridge?
For most homes, yes. The Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI used about 0.49 kWh a day at 32 °C in our test, against 0.78 kWh for a 3-star direct-cool Whirlpool of the same size, so the extra cost is recovered over a few years.
Can the Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI run on an inverter?
Yes. Its inverter compressor drew about 70 W while running in our test, so a 1 kVA inverter and a single battery can keep it going for many hours of load-shedding.
Does the Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI need defrosting?
Yes, it is a direct-cool model. We needed to defrost the freezer chamber about every 3 to 4 weeks in a humid kitchen.
What warranty does the Godrej RD EDGEPRO 205E 53 TAI have?
Retail listings give one year on the product and ten years on the compressor. Confirm the terms on your warranty card and keep the invoice.
