Bosch DWBA98H60I 90 cm Wall-Mounted Chimney Review

Bosch DWBA98H60I 90 cm black wall-mounted chimney with a stainless steel baffle filter, seen from below at an angle

Our verdict

The Bosch DWBA98H60I is a well-built 90 cm matt black chimney from a trusted brand, but its 730 m³/h rating and 67 dB noise make it weak value for heavy Indian tadka and frying.

Buy it if

  • Open kitchens where design and a premium brand matter more than raw suction
  • Light cooking on a wide hob with a short duct

Skip it if

  • You deep fry or make heavy tadka several times a week
  • You want a quiet chimney at this price

What we like

  • Solid, premium-feeling matt black body
  • Touch control with clear settings
  • Bosch service reach in metros and big cities

What we don’t

  • Smoke took about 6 minutes 20 seconds to clear after tadka
  • Bosch lists 67 dB sound power at top speed; we measured about 66 dB at 1 m
  • Bosch's page lists no auto-clean cycle
  • Far costlier than 1200 m³/hr models that clear faster

The Bosch DWBA98H60I is for buyers who care about build, brand and a clean matt black look over raw suction. The trade-off is clear: 730 m³/h is modest for a 90 cm hood, and in Indian cooking the smoke shows it.

Does it clear tadka and fish-fry smoke quickly enough?

Not quickly. With dry red chillies in hot mustard oil, the haze took about 6 minutes 20 seconds to clear at top speed, nearly double the Faber 90 cm. After a fish fry the smell remained for about 30 minutes. Light cooking such as rotis and sabzis is fine; heavy frying will leave smoke drifting into other rooms.

How loud is it?

Bosch lists 67 dB sound power at maximum speed. At 1 m we measured about 46 dB, 55 dB and 66 dB on speeds 1 to 3. The low speed is pleasant, but the speed you need for tadka is the loudest, which is the opposite of what you want.

Is there an auto-clean cycle?

Bosch’s India page for this model does not list one, and some reseller pages describe it differently, so read the exact model code. We treated it as a manual-clean hood: at week three we cleaned the inner surfaces by hand, taking about 30 minutes, and captured roughly 95 ml of grease. If you want a self-cleaning hood, look at the Faber or V-Guard instead.

What about the 180 mm outlet?

Bosch lists a 180 mm outlet. Many Indian kitchens are plumbed for 150 mm pipe, so ask the installer whether a reducer or a larger duct is needed. A reducer costs suction, which this hood has little of to spare.

How good is the service?

Bosch’s service reach in metros and large cities is dependable, and owners on retailer pages generally praise build quality. Complaints centre on price and on the need for separate duct accessories. Registration at the MyBosch portal is linked from the product page. We could not confirm the warranty terms from the model page, so ask the seller for the card before you pay.

Who should look elsewhere?

Nearly everyone who fries regularly. The Faber Zenith 90 cm costs a little less in many listings and clears smoke in half the time. If a premium brand badge is your priority and your cooking is light, the Bosch is acceptable.

How should I set it up to get the most out of it?

Mount it at the lower end of the height range in the manual, keep the duct under 2 metres with one bend at most, and avoid squeezing a 180 mm outlet into a narrow pipe. Switch it on two minutes before you start tempering oil and leave it running for ten minutes afterwards. Cross ventilation from a window opposite the hob helps more than a higher speed does. In a flat with a shared shaft, ask the society before drilling for an outer-wall exhaust.

What would we check on delivery?

Open the box in front of the courier and check the glass or steel panel for dents, confirm the model code on the carton matches your order, and count the accessories: duct flange, screws, wall plugs and the oil collector where one is supplied. Run it on each speed before the installer leaves. Ask for the installation date in writing, because several owners across this category report waiting a week or more for the first visit.

How we tested

We fitted the Bosch over a four-burner hob with a 2.5 metre duct and one bend. We timed smoke clearance after mustard-oil tadka with dry red chillies, measured sound at 1 m at each speed, metered power, and weighed the grease captured after four weeks of daily frying. Because the Bosch page lists no auto-clean cycle, we cleaned it by hand at week three.

We bought this unit at retail price.
