Both are 650 L-class frost-free side-by-sides with inverter compressors, aimed at joint families with a wide kitchen. They cooled and held temperature closely in our tests. The Samsung is the better-equipped fridge; the LG is the simpler, cheaper one with the stronger service network.

Which cools better in an Indian summer?

The Samsung, by a small margin. From a 38 °C start its fresh-food side reached 4 °C in about 3 hours against about 3 hours 10 minutes for the LG, and its freezer reached -18 °C in about 7 hours 40 minutes against about 8 hours. After a heavy load of vegetables and cooked food the Samsung recovered in about 75 minutes and the LG in about 90. Both held within 1 °C of the set point in a 40 °C kitchen.

Which copes better with voltage swings?

The Samsung. It started and ran across our whole 160 V to 260 V test range and is sold as stabiliser-free. The LG ran reliably between 165 V and 255 V and cut out safely outside that band, which is fine in most cities; add a stabiliser where the supply dips deeply.

Is the Samsung’s convertible zone worth it?

If your storage needs change through the year, yes. One compartment switches between freezer and fridge settings, so it can hold festival sweets and curd one week and bulk frozen meat the next; a mode change took about three hours to settle. The Wi-Fi app adds temperature and door-open alerts, which help if children or helpers leave the door ajar. The LG has neither.

Which has better service and warranty?

The LG has the wider service network, with spares easier to find than for most competitors, though visits in smaller towns can take more than three days. Samsung’s network is wide in metros and tier-2 cities, and Croma lists a 20-year compressor warranty with one year on the product. Both are heavy and wide, so measure doors and lifts before delivery.
