Both are 20-setting cordless beard trimmers from established brands. The Braun is the precision pick; the Philips is the all-rounder that is easier to live with.
Which is better on a thick, coarse beard?
The Braun. It pulled on none of our five passes through a thick beard and cut through wiry hair at the chin without slowing. The Philips pulled once in five passes, near the chin where hair grows in whorls, and slow strokes against the grain avoided it. Both did well; the Braun was the best in our group.
Which battery lasts longer?
The Philips, by a clear margin. It ran about 62 minutes on a fresh charge against about 47 minutes for the Braun. Neither charges quickly: the Philips took about 8 hours and the Braun about 10, so both suit an overnight charging routine. Neither is a phone-cable trimmer: the Philips does not use USB-C, and we could not confirm a USB-C port on the Braun.
Is the Braun worth the extra money?
Only if cut precision matters to you. The Braun’s finish and sturdier build are what you pay for; its runtime and charging are no better. If you mainly keep a medium beard tidy and want a trimmer you can get repaired easily, the Philips is the sensible choice.
