The Samsung S85H OLED is for people who watch films and play games in a dim room and want the best picture without moving to a larger, more expensive set. The trade-off is brightness and cost: it is dimmer than Mini-LED rivals, ships with modest speakers, and sells for around double the price.
How good are the blacks and contrast?
Exceptional. Each pixel switches off, so night scenes, space films and stadium floodlights on IPL broadcasts show no blooming. Colours were accurate in Filmmaker mode. For anyone used to an LED TV, this is a visible leap.
Is it bright enough for daytime?
Mostly. We measured a peak near 620 nits on a small window and about 250 nits full screen. With curtains partly drawn it is comfortable, but a bright hall with direct sunlight will wash it out more than the Hisense E8S Mini-LED.
How does it handle cricket?
Very well. OLED’s near-instant response means no trailing on the ball, and the 120 Hz panel made pans across the outfield look natural. Upscaling of DTH channels is decent, though not as clean as the Sony on standard-definition feeds.
Is Tizen fast, and what about ads?
Cold boot took about 11 seconds, YouTube opened in 3 seconds, Netflix in 4 and JioHotstar in 6, making it the quickest in this group. A sponsored strip appears on the home screen but is easy to ignore.
How good is it for gaming?
Very good. Input lag in game mode was about 9 ms, with 120 Hz and Samsung’s Gaming Hub, which also streams games without a console.
Do the speakers match the price?
No. The 20 W speakers reached about 76 dB at 80 percent volume, with clean dialogue and little bass. A soundbar is the natural pairing.
Should I worry about burn-in?
Only with habits. We saw no retention after five weeks, but leaving a news channel logo or scoreboard on for many hours every day is the risky case. Use the pixel-shift and screen-saver settings.
What about service and installation?
Samsung’s network is among the widest in India, and panel coverage extends for a second year according to listings. Wall mounting is typically arranged through the brand or dealer. Use a surge protector, because OLED electronics are costly to repair after lightning damage.
Who should buy something else?
If brightness and loud built-in sound matter more than perfect blacks, the Hisense E8S offers more for much less. If you want the Sony picture look at a lower price, consider the BRAVIA 2.
How much power does an OLED use?
Typical viewing drew about 90 W, and bright HDR scenes pushed it to around 150 W. That is less than the Mini-LED rival in normal use, because dark pixels draw almost nothing. Standby was under 1 W. A TV at this price deserves proper protection from power surges, so use a good surge protector or stabiliser, and keep the invoice and panel warranty details somewhere safe. Buy from an authorised dealer to avoid doubts about the second year of panel cover.

Questions buyers ask
Is the Samsung S85H OLED good for a bright Indian living room?
Only moderately. The Samsung S85H peaked near 620 nits in our test, enough for daytime viewing with curtains partly drawn, but Mini-LED sets are brighter.
Does the Samsung S85H OLED have burn-in?
OLED panels can retain static images after long exposure. We saw no burn-in in five weeks, but avoid leaving a scoreboard or channel logo on for many hours daily.
Is the Samsung S85H good for gaming?
Yes. It has a 120 Hz panel and Samsung Gaming Hub, and we measured about 9 ms input lag in game mode.
Do I need a soundbar with the Samsung S85H?
For films, yes. The 20 W speakers are clear for dialogue but lack bass compared with the 61 W system on the Hisense E8S.
