Air Fryers Review
Pigeon Healthifry Digital 4.2 L Air Fryer Review
Our verdict
The Pigeon Healthifry Digital is a 4.2 L, 1200 W air fryer that is cheap to buy but slow and uneven, so it only suits light reheating and occasional snacks for one or two people.

What we like
- Among the cheapest digital 4.2 L air fryers from a known brand

- Used about 0.28 kWh per 24-minute session
What we don’t
- Fries took about 24 minutes and three shakes

- Plastic smell on the first two or three uses

The Pigeon Healthifry Digital is for students and one-to-two-person households that want to reheat snacks without a big spend. Its trade-off is speed and evenness: the lower-power heater and uneven airflow mean more shaking, slower cooking and results that vary across the basket.
How long does it take to cook fries and reheat samosas?
Preheating to 200 °C took about 5 minutes. A 400 g portion of frozen fries needed around 24 minutes with three shakes, and some pieces at the edges were still pale. Frozen samosas reheated in about 6 minutes, crisp enough to be a solid upgrade on a microwave. Parathas reheated in 5 minutes with a drop of ghee, which is the unit’s best use.
Is it good for paneer or chicken tikka?
Not really. 250 g of paneer tikka took about 14 minutes and browned unevenly, with dark edges and pale centres. 300 g of chicken tikka took 20 minutes and needed a flip plus a rotation of the basket for acceptable colour. For two people it is workable; for a family it is too slow.
Is it noisy and does it smell?
At about 64 dB at one metre the fan is the loudest of the single-basket units we tested, which stands out in a small room. Expect a plastic smell for the first two or three uses; run it empty for ten minutes with the window open before the first meal.
Will it work on a 5 A socket, an inverter or low voltage?
At 1200 W it draws about 5.2 A, a notch above a 5 A point’s comfortable rating, so use a 15 A socket where you can. It is easier on a small inverter than 1400 W units, and on a 200 V evening supply it still heated, with preheat stretching to roughly 6.5 minutes.
How much power and oil does it use?
A 24-minute session used about 0.28 kWh. The efficiency is fine on paper, but slow cooking cancels some of the saving. Most snacks need one teaspoon of oil.
Is it easy to clean and will the coating last?
The non-stick basket rinses clean in a minute. Budget coatings can wear faster than premium ones, and owners in this price band commonly mention scuffing and flaking over months of use, so use silicone tongs and wash by hand.
Does it suit a small kitchen or hostel?
Yes, on size. It is compact enough for a shelf or a hostel table, and the light body is easy to carry. Keep space behind it for the exhaust.
What about warranty and service?
Pigeon is widely sold, but service for small appliances can be slow outside metros. Confirm the warranty term on the box rather than relying on listings, and keep the invoice.
Should I spend a little more?
If you can stretch the budget, a stronger 1400 W unit such as the Inalsa or Kent cooks faster and more evenly, and saves you the constant shaking. The Pigeon makes sense only when the lowest price or the lowest power draw is the priority.

Questions buyers ask
How many people can the Pigeon Healthifry Digital cook for?
The Pigeon Healthifry Digital has a 4.2 L basket, but in our test it cooked only about 400 g of fries evenly, which suits one or two people per batch.
Does the Pigeon Healthifry Digital need shaking?
Yes, often. Frozen fries in the Pigeon Healthifry Digital needed three shakes, and tikka pieces needed a flip and a rotation to avoid dark edges.
Does the Pigeon Healthifry Digital smell of plastic?
Briefly. We noticed a plastic smell on the first two or three uses; running it empty for 10 minutes at 200 °C in a ventilated room reduced it.
How much electricity does the Pigeon Healthifry Digital use?
A 24-minute session used about 0.28 kWh on our meter, so a student using it a few times a week adds only a few units a month.
