Our verdict
The LG GL-S292RPZY is a well-built 240 L convertible fridge with excellent service reach, but a 2-star rating and a street price above 3-star rivals make it poor value.

The LG GL-S292RPZY is for buyers who trust LG’s service and want a convertible freezer in a compact frost-free body. The trade-off is a 2-star rating and a street price that is hard to justify against 3-star alternatives.
Is a 2-star fridge worth buying?
On running cost, not really. We measured 1.02 kWh a day at 32 °C and 1.34 kWh at 40 °C, about 20 percent more than the 3-star Samsung of similar size. Over ten years, that adds up to a sum comparable to the price gap, so the 2-star label matters.
How well does it cool?
From a 38 °C start the fresh-food compartment reached 4 °C in about 2 hours 35 minutes and the freezer reached -18 °C in about 6 hours 50 minutes. In steady running, the cabinet stayed within 1 °C of the set point, even when the afternoon kitchen hit 40 °C.
How does it handle a power cut?
Over a 3-hour cut with the doors shut, the fresh-food compartment rose from 4 °C to 7 °C and the freezer from -18 °C to -12 °C. Frozen items stayed solid, and milk and cooked food remained within safe limits.
What does convertible mode add?
The lower freezer drawer can switch to fridge mode, which adds about 40 litres of cold space for festival cooking. The change took about three hours in our test. It works well for storing sweets, curd or extra vegetables.
Does it work with voltage swings and inverters?
We stepped the supply from 160 V to 260 V. The compressor ran between 165 V and 255 V and cut out safely outside that band. On a 1 kVA inverter, the fridge ran without trouble, drawing about 100 W while the compressor ran.
Is it quiet?
Yes. About 40 dB at one metre in steady running and 45 dB during pull-down. The build feels solid, and the door seals closed with little effort.
How practical is the storage?
A 5 litre milk pack, two steel containers and about a week of vegetables fit. The crisper held coriander for 5 days and cabbage for 12. Door pockets take one-litre bottles; a 2 litre bottle fits on the lowest shelf.
How is the service?
LG has the widest service network we know of in India, with technicians reaching most districts within a day or two. Owners generally praise the response, while complaints focus on spare delays for rare parts.
Who should buy something else?
Buy the Samsung RT28C3733S8 or Whirlpool IF INV CNV 278 if you want a better star rating for the same money. Buy the LG only if service reach decides it.
Does placement affect how it performs?
Slightly. Leave about 5 cm at the back and sides for heat to escape, and keep it away from the gas stove and direct afternoon sun. When we moved the fridge next to a window that gets afternoon sun, daily energy use rose by about 8 percent at 40 °C. A level floor also helps the doors close properly and keeps the door seals in good shape for years.
