These are the two strongest batter grinders we have tested, so the choice comes down to what else you want the machine to do. The Preethi is the all-rounder; the Sujata is the specialist.

Which grinds idli batter and masalas better?

There is little in it. The Preethi was a minute quicker on our 1 kg idli batch, and both produced smooth batter that fermented well without a second pass. On dry masalas the order flips: the Sujata reached a fine powder a little sooner. The Sujata’s 900 W motor did not slow when the jar was filled to the recommended mark, and it is listed for up to 90 minutes of continuous running, which suits households that grind batter several times a week. Owners of the Sujata most often praise exactly this: years of heavy wet grinding without a motor change.

Is the Preethi’s juicer jar worth paying more for?

Only if you will use it. The Preethi’s juicer jar separated pulp cleanly from sweet lime and carrot, its blender jar made a smooth lassi, and the box adds a food processor jar. If you never make juice or coconut milk, the Sujata gives similar batter performance for less, and its three jars and whipper cover batter, masalas and chutney.

Which is easier to live with day to day?

The Preethi is quieter and its motor ran cooler after three back-to-back batter batches, though it is large, heavy and has many parts to wash. The Sujata is louder, which matters for early-morning batter runs in a compact flat, and it is also heavy and bulky. Both kept running at full speed on our 180 V supply, and both are better matched to a 1.5 kVA inverter than a 1 kVA one.

Which has better service near you?

Preethi’s service is strongest across South India and owners generally describe it as dependable. Sujata’s reach is broad across South and West India, and its jars and couplers are easy to find at local appliance shops. Pick the brand with a service centre in your town.
