This is the most common choice for a first home BP monitor: the well-known Omron or a cheaper Indian-brand upper-arm model. Both give usable readings; the Omron is steadier and better supported.
How much steadier is the Omron?
Three readings taken a minute apart varied by about 3 mmHg systolic on the Omron HEM-7121, the tightest spread in our group, and by about 6 mmHg on the Morepen BP-15, roughly double. The Morepen’s automatic average of the last three readings helps smooth that out, and the averaged value is the one to note in your diary.
Which cuff fits better?
Retailers list the Omron cuff at 22-32 cm; it fitted 24 to 30 cm arms well and barely closed on a 34 cm arm. One retailer listing gives the Morepen cuff as about 22-40 cm, which we could not confirm on the box. It closed on our 24 to 36 cm arms but sat loosely on a 24 cm arm, where two readings read high. Measure your upper arm before buying either.
Which is easier to get serviced?
The Omron. It has a long-established service presence in Indian cities and is sold through pharmacies. The Morepen comes with a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects, and we found little about its service centres outside metros, so ask the seller how replacement works.
