Both are 60 cm, 1200 m³/hr filterless chimneys with heat auto-clean, made for small kitchens with a two-burner hob. They performed closely in our tests, so the choice comes down to controls, warranty and service.
Which clears smoke better?
The Elica, by a small margin. It cleared tadka smoke in about 3 minutes 40 seconds at top speed and the Sunflame in about 4 minutes, both with short ducts. After a fish fry, the smell was still noticeable in the corridor 20 minutes later with the Elica, and lingered in the room for about 15 minutes with the Sunflame. Neither is made for daily deep frying on a four-burner hob.
Touch and motion sensor, or push buttons?
This is the main difference. The Elica changes speed with a wave of the hand, and its touch panel still responds with slightly oily fingers, though it needs regular wiping. The Sunflame uses physical buttons that work with wet or oily hands and have no touch panel to lose sensitivity, but there is no gesture control.
How do auto-clean and running cost compare?
Both use heat auto-clean and an oil collector. The Elica’s cycle took 22 minutes and left a thin film to wipe; the Sunflame’s took about 20 minutes. The Sunflame drew about 125 W at top speed against about 145 W for the Elica, so both are easy on a small inverter.
